Establishing a COVID-19 lemmatized word list for journalists and ESP learners

The aim of this research is two-fold; first, to explore the most frequent COVID-19 inspired words in medical news reporting contexts, and second, classify them into different categories. This paper adopts a corpus-based approach build lemmatized academic word list (AWL) by pandemic. Factiva was used retrieve pandemic-related articles published News Rx from January 1 - October 31, 2020. A total number 18,249,093-word corpus compiled. linguistic software program Wordsmith (WS-6) (Scott, 2012) generate based on complied corpus. Subsequent compiling, lemmatizing, analyzing AWL, six categories were identified, namely, acronyms abbreviation, diseases, COVID-19, biology, medicine, scientific disciplines, all which are essential use for media workers, ESP learners journalism, nursing, pharmacy, allied health sciences. Building such discipline-specific glossary will be special pedagogical value journalists, textbook writers curriculum designers, instructors, sciences field. One major contributions establishing lemmas large set AWL. can utilized communication specialists, learners. Lemmatization ensure rapid dissemination its integration system through derivation other word-formation processes.
